it is the enhancement of Being in its genuine truth, which can genuinely
only preserve and protect in and as the event.
Need is not a relativizing of Being to a singular being having the special nature of the human being.
Need is the relation, the naming, calling letting-come of the clearing of Being and that means of beings as such in the midst of this.
[141] As this relation, Being itself unfolds and assigns its safe-keeping to itself as event. Event yields every “there is,” into which the last steps of metaphysical representing arrive insofar as they have thus far already become cautious, so that they do not explain Being on the basis of beings or place it into a highest being.
The event assigns and appropriatively gives the distinction between presencing and what is present, needfully gives [still veiledly] “Dasein,” gives similarly at the price of forgetting the distinction, and this forgetting itself remains forgotten.
The human being ek-sists insofar as he sustains the clearing of
Being and tends the clearing that is granted in the sustainment and
thus harbors its belongingness to that which grants (event).
The human being “is,” in that he ek-sists the “there” (the clearing of Being). The human being is thus the being [das Seiende] of Da-sein. In this respect, Dasein is itself a being. Da-sein is the essential occurrence [das Wesende] of the human being. More originally and, therefore, in need of exposition and correspondingly far-reaching, the saying reads: the human being is the human being as the mortal. What is necessary is the transformation of the human essence into mortality.—
In this, the human being first becomes “essential.”—
Does it suffice when a thinking excites, at times even agitates?
It suffices if and when the excited bestir themselves and maintain activity on the path that has been stimulated, instead of, even later on, just staying there and not getting up from where they have always found their bearings and make use of all excitations as merely the enrichment of their unalterable belongings.
It suffices when the excited wake up [aufwachen] and no longer al low the sleepiness of ordinary representing to develop as the form of their waking [Wachen] and as the guarding [Bewachen] of their belongings.
